International Dog Day
Sometimes all it takes to change your day, your perspective, or even your entire world is one, quick adventure in the outdoors. And for dogs in shelters waiting for their forever homes, an afternoon spent running, walking, or simply hanging out with you can mean everything.
Since day one, Ruffwear has been committed to supporting effective canine adoption. We believe that every dog—regardless of their story—deserves an active lifestyle, fresh air, and a loving home.
This upcoming International Dog Day (Wednesday, August 26th), we are asking our community to help us make a difference where it matters most: at your local animal shelter. We know adoption is a big commitment, and many in our pack already have full houses! But you do not need to adopt to change a shelter dog's day. Many rescue organizations run short-term volunteer programs that let you check out a dog for a walk, a trail hike, or a afternoon trip to the park. A few hours of fresh air and movement can radically reduce a shelter dog's stress levels and boost their chances of getting adopted.
To lead by example, Ruffwear is giving all employees a half-day off on August 26th to volunteer at their local shelters. We are also donating $10,000 in total financial support alongside gear donations to help these shelters thrive.
How You Can Participate on August 26th
Step 1: Find a Local Shelter — Research shelters or rescues in your area and check if they offer "Dog Day Out," trail walking, or temporary outing programs.
Step 2: Complete the Prep — Make sure you have filled out any necessary volunteer paperwork or brief training requirements ahead of time.
Step 3: Block Your Calendar — Reserve some time on Wednesday, August 26th, to pick up your trail buddy for the day.
Step 4: Share the Journey — Take photos during your adventure and tag @Ruffwear_europe. We will be re-sharing your stories all day long to help raise awareness for these incredible pups!
