Selected: Cloudburst Gray

    Super sturdy and well made!

I am training a wilderness search and rescue dog. In an offhand discussion with a colleague, she mentioned having to be airlifted out of a canyon by a helicopter with her dog, and then starting to spin, so the helicopter crew was unable to get them into the helicopter and they had to travel a mile like that, dangling under the helicopter. She was attached to the line by her harness, the dog by his. Aside from my utter horror at that prospect, my immediate thought was that I don’t have a single harness (and I have a LOT of harnesses) that I would trust in that situation. So I asked her what harness she used for that. She told me, this one. I ordered it on the spot. I have other Ruffwear harnesses, and like them a lot. But this one is an entirely different sort of harness. From the moment it came out of the package, the quality and sturdiness were obvious. It is weighty but not heavy or bulky. It is almost supple in feel; not rigid. The buckles are smooth, solid metal, the straps are convincingly strong and smooth. This is not a quick release harness. You need to strap in your dog like you would strap yourself into a climbing harness. Once on, though, it didn’t seem to bother my 52 pound Lab at all. I’ve attached a photo; she is wearing the Medium. She wasn’t a huge fan of the straps behind her legs, never having worn them like that before, but she did quickly forget about them. I would only use those for an actual lift, not for general working. I love that…

    Looks very durable

Looks very durable for my 90lbs pup. He doesn’t very like the straps go around his hip. Tried to lift him with the harness, he doesn’t like it as usual but I think the area to lift him on his chest is the big compare to what I have seen in the market. So it should be more comfortable for him. The hip lift is very efficient. Not very easy to take it off. Will have it in case my senior pup having mobility issue and cannot walk.

    Love it!

Love this harness, had an older model I used with a previous dog years ago….unfortunately, the new one didn’t fit my current long-backed dog well. Still an awesome product, just not for my guy.

    Multi-use Possibilities

We intend on using this harness for additional backcountry activities in the future but for now it is additional support for our 65 pound lab after TPLO surgery. The harness is very supportive and has given her temporary relief on the back legs until the surgery date since we can help with her walking. Overall a very solid harness.

Exactly What I Need for my 10 and a Half Year Old Lab Mix BUT,,,,,

Am unfortunately returning this harness as i just canNOT get the chest piece to sit on sternum comfortably for my pup -- and the straps ARE All The Way OUT-- as far as they can go. He must be just 'that much more' deep chested than most ! Am hoping to find exACTLY this type harness to get him used to a "Rear End Lift Assist" Device beFORE he needs one, This harness will be perfect (as soon as ya'll get more chest strap room, please!
